At the start of the year I decided to do a 12 month reading journey. I have a lot of books that I haven’t read that are just sitting in my room. (I will link previous blog about this below).
Now I started the year off well, reading 3 books in a month and blogging about each one but then came the readers block. I just couldn’t read, no matter how hard I tried I could not get my mind to focus on a book. Obviously this made me frustrated which in turn made me not want to read even more.
Its a vicious cycle.
I suffer from anxiety which I have mentioned in previous blogs so i’m not going to talk about that here but I think it had a big part as to why I couldn’t concentrate or focus.
If you would like to read my blog on anxiety you will find it here:
As a book lover, losing the ability to read is actually heartbreaking, I know that sounds a bit dramatic but for me it’s true but now here we are at the end of July and I have finished a book and i’m half way through another!
Hooray! Three cheers for me! (I’m also doing a little happy dance but you can’t see that).
The book i managed to finish was The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton.
I liked it but didn’t love it, it was too much back and forth between characters and timelines for me to really get into it and that probably didn’t help seeing as I was struggling to read anyway. (I might review this book in a separate blog).
I kept on and I got through, I think it helped me break my bad spell because now i’m half way through Matt Haig’s How To Stop Time and i’m loving it.
Anyway this blog is not going to be a long one, I just wanted to write down whats been going on, more for me than for anyone else.
I’m back and i’m ready to read again (and hopefully blog).
Will I reach my goal that I set myself at the beginning of the year? Probably not, but that’s okay because any book I finish is a massive achievement and i’m just going to concentrate on one book at a time.
